SoundAcoustics room kits have been designed to provide a cost-effective solution for a range of typical music listening environments. The room kits are all based on high specification broadband absorbers and offer a significant saving over purchasing the panels separately. For a custom studio package contact sales@soundacoustics for special pricing. The amount of acoustic treatment required depends on a number of factors: room dimensions; construction materials; furnishings and floor coverings; speaker type and position; listening volumes; purpose of room; personal preference. Placement of acoustic panels in a rectangular shaped room is based of the following principles:

Symmetry: The audio system should be positioned symmetrically, facing the long dimension of the room, if possible. Acoustic treatment is also best applied symmetrically, particularly the first reflection points. If this is not possible due to windows etc. it is worthwhile constructing a portable panel to mount the treatment on.

First reflection points: A huge improvement in clarity and imaging of an audio system can be achieved just by treating the first (primary) reflection points with broad frequency absorbing panels. First reflection points can be identified by placing a mirror on the side walls and moving it to a point where it is possible to view the reflection of the speaker from the listening position. It can also be helpful to treat the ceiling, particularly low ceilings. First reflection points also occur on the rear walls.

Bass absorption: Bass traps are best installed in the corners behind the speakers. They can also be placed in all four corners of the room for additional low frequency absorption. In a room with no available corners, bass traps can be placed in the ceiling.

General room reverb (higher frequency): Installation of first reflection broadband absorption and corner bass traps will usually reduce reverb times fairly evenly across the audio spectrum. However, in very "live" rooms (ie. polished floorboards, large windows) some additional absorbers may be required. Broadband absorbers can be placed on the wall behind the audio system / desk or alternatively, spaced evenly around the room. This very much depends on personal taste and the function of the room.
